Robbers stormed into Queen Mary’s Hospital and tied up a hospital security guard before trying to rob an ATM machine.
Four men entered the Roehampton-based hospital at 3.30am on Sunday and used an angle grinder to try and access the cash machine.
A source told the Wandsworth Guardian: “A security guard was tied up and held at gunpoint.”
Fortunately a member of staff managed to call the police and the robbers fled.
Officer’s from the Met’s flying squad, who investigate armed robberies, are investigating the incident.
A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: “Police were called at around 03:30hrs on Sunday, May 10, to reports of men attempting to rob an ATM in the foyer of Queen Marys Hospital.
"The suspects had fled the scene prior to police arrival. At this early stage it is believed they were using an angle grinder to attempt to gain access to the ATM. There were no reports of any serious injuries.
No arrests and enquiries continue.”
A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We treated one patient - a man for minor injuries. He did not go to hospital.”
