Detectives in Elmbridge are appealing for witnesses after a man was bashed in Walton-on-Thames.

The man was walking home along Rydens Road on Sunday, March 25, about 11.30pm when a group of youths demanded money then attacked him.

Detectives said the 58-year-old was punched several times, with the attack continuing even as he lay on the ground, before the robbers made off towards Sidney Road.

The victim was taken to St Peters Hospital in Chertsey by ambulance where he was treated for a fractured cheek bone and severe bruising and swelling to the face.

The suspects are described as white males, medium build, aged 17 to 19, wearing black hooded tops and black baseball caps.

Detective Constable Ian Moody urged anyone with information to come forward.

"This is a nasty attack, the likes of which are fortunately rare in Surrey," DC Moody said.

"We will do all we can to bring the offenders to justice in this case and I would appeal to anyone with any information to come forward."

The victim had been walking along Rydens Road having left the Comrades Club in Hersham Road when the attack occurred.

Anyone with information should contact DC Ian Moody at Epsom CID on 0845 125 2222 or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
