Tooting & Mitcham United keeper Dave King does not have an eye on winning the club's player-of-the-season award, insisting winning promotion is his only concern.

King has been vital in the Terrors conceding just 34 league goals, making them the meanest defence in the league.

His impressive form has prompted assistant boss George Wakeling to suggest he will be named Tooting's player of the season.

But modest King's focus is on claiming a Ryman Division One South play-off place.

"I have done all right this season, but I have got a good defence in front of me," he said.

"We have got the best defensive record in the league, but it is a team effort.

"It's nice to be praised by the coaching staff and I will continue to do my best in each game that I play.

"But my sole aim is to get into the play offs and anything after that is a bonus."

King believes Tooting are capable of making up their six-point deficit on the play-off places, particularly having three games in hand.

"We are still very much in it," he said.

"We have got a couple of games in hand over the teams around us but I would rather have the points.

"After a couple of wins, we will be there or thereabouts come the end of the season."

A last-minute Ks equaliser dented Tooting's promotion hopes on Saturday, after Ben Abbey, Ronnie Green and Paul Vines had scored for the Terrors.
