Spooky events including a light fitting flying across the bar and a hand dryer that comes on for no reason has prompted the landlords of an Egham pub to call in a medium.

Kevin and Katie Carter, leaseholders of the Red Lion in Egham High Street which dates back to 1521, say they are looking for answers to what could be a haunting.

Ghosts have been suggested as the cause of mysterious banging noises and a light fitting flying across the pub's bar that was captured on CCTV.

While Mr and Mrs Carter are confused by the ladies toilet hand dryer that switches on for no reason, their dog likes it much less.

"Every time we went near the ladies' toilets the hand drier kept going off for no apparent reason," Mrs Carter said.

"The dog got very spooked when he went near, his hackles went up, he started growling, then he ran away.

"Whatever it was, it really scared him."

She said the hand dryer suppliers had checked the machine but could not explain its uncanny behaviour.

Mrs Carter said her husband heard banging in the middle of the night and raced down to the office, where he saw the light fitting flying across the bar at a 45 degree angle.

"He saw the light fitting being literally thrown across the room," she said.

"If there is a logical explanation, then please, somebody tell me but I really don't know.

"We have been given the name of a local lady that can come down to see if there is anything present so we are going to be giving her a ring."

Mrs Carter said she was now trying to trace the pub's history to find out if there were any hauntings in its past.

She said she planned to contact the local history group but appealed for any past residents, staff or landlords with information to give her a call or drop in to the pub.
