In response to the letter “Bus station would help businesses”. (Your Say, April 2).

On April 2, I spent half-an hour at the junction of Mulgrave Road and Brighton Road to observe the goings-on for myself.

Although nothing untoward happened during my visit, I did witness several close shaves between drivers impatient to exit Mulgrave Road in order to turn right towards Banstead.

I think it would have been a better idea to erect the large diameter lamppost on the traffic island further away from the junction so that drivers had a clearer view of traffic heading into Sutton from their right.

Also, I noticed traffic heading into the town often got stopped by the traffic lights at the junction with Grove Road, which then caused a tailback past Mulgrave Road.

There is a yellow box at the exit from Mulgrave Road and drivers can be fined for stopping in this box and preventing traffic from turning right into Mulgrave Road. Some drivers seemed oblivious to this yellow box.

I would like to point out that there is a camera on this lamppost.

So I would urge drivers to pay more attention to their driving if they want to avoid a fine. Leave a large space between you and the vehicle in front of you so as not to get trapped in the yellow box.
