Comedian Eddie Izzard caused a fuss when he hit the election campaign trail in Croydon town centre this afternoon.
The Labour-supporting funnyman was mobbed by mobile-toting selfie-seekers after joining Croydon Central candidate Sarah Jones in North End.
He was on the 33rd seat of a whistle-stop tour of key Labour battlegrounds ahead of the May 7 polls.
After posing for dozens of snaps, the Crystal Palace fanatic spoke of his own Parliamentary ambitions - and his lifelong love for Croydon.
He said: "Croydon has always been central to my life. Even though I'm from the south I used to spend a lot of time here. My Aunt Bea and Uncle John used to live in Whitehorse Lane.
"I told my dad I was a transvestite after a Palace game."
Mr Izzard plans to run to be an MP in 2020, although he said he was not yet eyeing up a particular seat.
And he believes, if elected, he will join Mrs Jones on the green benches. He said: "People are very positive here. I believe she will do it."
