Carshalton Athletic were restricted to a single point from Saturday's trip to Worthing by an outstanding performance from home keeper Rikki Banks which earned his side a 0-0 draw.

But the Rebels really needed to win to retain a realistic chance of staying in the Ryman Premier League.

The early chances fell to the Robins, with captain Adrian Toppin's header and Mark Marshall's 20-yard strike being tipped over by Banks. The keeper came to the rescue again when he pulled off a point blank save from Ryan Watts.

Worthing's cause suffered a setback when midfielder Danny Davis was stretchered off following a collision with Liam Harwood. But former Robin Omari Coleman could have given the home side the lead after unnerving the Carshalton defence, only to fire over the bar.

Luke Fontana was the next to be denied by Banks, who came out to save when the striker was sent clear by Marshall.

The second half provided more of the same, although the home team, assisted by the strong, swirling wind, enjoyed more possession without being able to put Robins keeper Aaron Howe under serious pressure.

Good work down the left by Ryan Watts ended with a fine pass to the feet of Fontana, but the striker's under-hit shot was stopped by Banks.

Although Laurent Hamici came on as a late substitute for the unimpressive Haworth, Carshalton were unable to create any further chances.

Carshalton: Howe, Cooper, Harwood, Graves, Cartledge, Maledon, Marshall, Toppin, Fontana, Haworth (Hamici), Watts. Subs unused: Rayner, Wilson.

This Saturday Carshalton are away in the league to Heybridge Swifts (3pm).
