Seven people were evacuated from their homes yesterday afternoon after a fire at a garage in Mead Way, Coulsdon.
The single-storey garage was destroyed in the blaze and firefighters evacuated people in nearby properties as they worked to stop the fire spreading.
Seven gas cylinders, including oxygen, argon and propane, were found inside the garage.
Fire crews from Purley and Wallington closed the road while the cylinders were cooled.
The brigade was called at 4.28pm and the fire was under control shortly after 5.30pm.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
