Sarah Clayton is misguided and missing the point when she criticises Channel 4's documentary on Global Warming. There are several points she needs to understand: The earth has cooled and warmed throughout its existence and will continue to do so, with or without man living on its surface.

The majority of the surface of the earth is covered by the oceans, of the small bit left, only a very small proportion is occupied by industrial nations.

The earth's oceans, volcanoes and rotting vegetation emits the vast majority of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere; carbon dioxide is a very small percentage of the atmosphere anyway and of all the greenhouse gases it is again a small percentage.

The moon, a tiny planet, exerts a huge influence on the tides, and thus life, on earth.

The sun, infinitesimally larger, is the single most powerful influence on the temperature of our world.

Man is part of nature and, if we seriously believe that what we do has ANY influence on the temperature of this beautiful planet, we are sadly deluding ourselves - we are not all that significant.

Global warming is a reality; we are NOT responsible; but we DO need to use this world's resources more responsibly, but not to the detriment of the development of what we commonly call the Third World - they desrve the chance to an industrial age just as much as we have.

We are being conned by the Government and the media. Too many journalists and editors are willing to unquestioningly parrot views.
