Drivers and residents in Waddon have turned red with anger because new traffic lights have still not been switched on three months after they were installed.

Just before Christmas, Transport for London (TfL) started work on signals at the crossroads of Denning Avenue, Hillside Road and Crowley Crescent.

The work was meant to take three weeks but months on temporary lights are still in place.

TfL blamed vandalism for the delay and promised the work would be completed this week.

Electrician Roger Wales lives close to the junction and admitted to being fed-up with the situation.

He said: "It has been a nightmare. The noise and the pollution has been unbelievable. Most of the time I can't get into my own driveway because cars are backed up in front of it."

The temporary lights allow cars from only one of the four directions to go through at once, meaning drivers often find themselves waiting up to five minutes.

Roger, 57, added: "Why can't the traffic from two roads go at once?

"The traffic can get really backed up, especially during the rush hour.

Cars sit outside, playing loud music and our windows shudder.

"We hardly get any peace. I am getting really frustrated now."

A TfL spokesman said: "There has been a delay in completing the modernisation of the signals due to the site being vandalised.

"However, the work is now on track to be finished this week."
