I read with interest the recent article (Back the long arm of the claw, February 22) concerning the crushing of scooters by police from Chertsey and agree totally with the comments of JV Cheshire.

It is only a pity the police in my area of Staines do not take this type of antisocial behaviour as serious as PC Dave Stockle.

Every weekend and some evenings on the fields behind Buckland School and those adjacent to Staines and Laleham Cricket Club, youths congregate to race scooters and motorbikes.

Fences have been broken by the youths to gain access to the land, meaning the once peaceful fields that contained livestock are reduced to a motorcross circuit. The livestock was moved some time ago to safer surroundings.

The youths seldom wear protective headgear and it is only a matter of time before one of them suffers a serious injury or causes injury to a law-abiding member of the public.

Despite a number of telephone calls to Surrey Police, this type of antisocial behaviour shows little sign of dying down.

Perhaps if Surrey Police were to start taking away and destroying these bikes, then the youths would finally get the message?
