Carshalton Athletic attacker Charley Side says he will play wherever Dave Garland wants him to after starting on the right wing on Saturday.

The 26-year-old started in Saturday's 2-0 win over Leyton as a wide midfielder, with Luke Fontana and Robert Haworth playing as the main strikers.

And Side did not disappoint, scoring the opener before being forced off with an ankle injury that may rule him out of Saturday's trip to struggling Worthing.

Robins boss Garland has told the Comet of his desire to play Side, Fontana and Haworth in the same side and seems to have earmarked a role on the right flank for the former.

Side is happy to oblige, saying: "A shirt is a shirt. If the manager asked me to play at right back, then I would.

"Of course I would like to play up front alongside either Luke or Robert but, of the three of us, I am the one more adaptable to play there.

"I will play wherever the gaffer asks me to play."

After his opener and a second-half strike from Mark Marshall secured the three points, Side claimed the Carshalton players had reacted positively following the previous weekend's lacklustre display against Walton & Hersham.

"To be fair to the lads, as soon as we arrived we were a lot more pumped up, particularly after last week," he said.

"Everyone played with the right attitude.

"We were on it from the outset and it paid off."

Robins boss Garland has been impressed with Side's recent performances, and admitted it had forced him to rethink his tactics.

"I think we have missed a bit up front this season so I want to play all three together with Charley on the right," he said.

"He lost his way a bit but he has played his way into my thoughts again and he is definitely in my plans for the rest of the season."

Garland has also revealed that a 9am training session the day after the Walton defeat provided his side with the jolt they needed.

"I had them in on Sunday morning to have a good chat about things.

"They have worked hard in training and we have got the reward. I didn't want to be in at 9am on a Sunday either but sometimes you have to do these things to put things right."
