If you want to see something completely different that features zany performers combining music, comedy and theatrics then The Blue Man Group at the New London Theatre is the show for you, writes Heather Flood.

My son raved about the show after seeing it in Las Vegas and it travels well - around the world in fact! Yet the format is so simple - it consists mainly of three artists completely covered in bright blue make-up and clothing playing percussion music on a variety of unusual instruments, including PVC pipes and tubes, clowning around and inter-acting with the audience. It's a breathtaking spectacle especially when they drum on paint, creating vibrant splashes of mixed colours.

The talented performers - the roles are played alternatively by Aurelien Bernard, David Bray, Eke Chukwu, Isaac Eddy, Callum Grant and Kuba Pierzchalski - look like aliens, but they show the human traits that enable them to connect so well with others.

This is a totally unique form of entertainment, designed for maximum emotional input. Blue Man Group co-founder Chris Wink says: "Our trademark has become the party atmosphere and the show creates its own quirky and wonderful way".

Members of the audience are chosen to help the group with part of their act on stage. Here I should give a word of warning: if you sit in the front six rows be prepared for paint to be sprayed liberally about - people in these rows are given plastic macks. And hopefully you like your music loud with lots of drums!

Apart from the comedy and the music, this is also a light show. One little girl sitting in front of me asked her mother if it was real magic and when the whole audience became illuminated she was convinced it was.

The atmosphere was upbeat and when we were leaving the New London Theatre and I could hear many people saying they would like to see the Blue Man Group again with other friends. So if you are looking for a show with lots of colourful effects, featuring oddball performers providing plenty of laughs and rhythmic music you should find this enthralling.
