Building work has started on a new treetop adventure course in Battersea Park.

Wandsworth Times:

Good fun: But at what cost?

Go Ape has now started creating its first City Park Adventure attraction in the park, suitable for anyone aged six and over.

Children’s services spokesman Councillor Kathy Tracey said: "I suspect it will be the first thing that many children ask to do when they’re thinking about how to celebrate their birthdays."

Although, the first question parents might ask is how much will it cost? A spokeswoman for Go Ape said prices are yet to be confirmed.

According to its website, other Go Ape sites across the country charge from £18 to £45 a person, depending on age and the activity.

The site will be fully-trained members of staff on hand and will be the first park of its kind in central London.

It is expected to open in May and Wandsworth Council said it would provide up to 30 full time and part time jobs for local people.

The park's former, free-of-charge, "adventure" playground site was controversially demolished, spurring an occupation by Wandsworth Against Cuts and Occupy London in a bid to save it from demolition in 2013.

However, two summers ago, free-to-use playground equipment was installed at a cost of £250,000, including rope swings, chain ladders, aerial walkways, tube slides, scramble nets, zip wires and fireman’s poles.

Go Ape’s business development manager Ben Davies added: "Battersea Park is an iconic location with a great family atmosphere. It’s the perfect place for people to enjoy the fun-filled adventure that the Go Ape experience offers. This is great news for people of all ages who want to enjoy a really exhilarating and different day out in the park."
