Recently I received a £30 fine whilst cycling. Has anyone else ever received a fine for cycling?

I had been cycling in the road near Wandsworth Prison. I turned off along the side road towards Trinity Road shops. This is a short no exit road.

I had to get from this road onto the main Trinity Road. I cycled across a 20 foot section of path leading to the main road.

I stopped for a moment at the main road to adjust my bag. I noticed 30 yards ahead were a couple of Police Community Support Officers walking towards me.

I continued my journey along Trinity Road and one of the officers proceeded to flag me down.

Happily, I stopped in case they needed some advice. However, they pointed out I had not used a specific cycle area of the pavement to cross, then stuffed me with a £30 fine.

I can assure you I was gobsmacked...

When asked if there was any comment I would like to make for their notes, I just couldn't help but say it's a fair cop'.

Yes, I cycled across the path from one road. I could at least have expected a warning notice.

I wonder would a yob that had just mugged someone have stopped on his/her cycle?

Cyclists beware if you cycle you could be fined, if you drive you could be fined, if you mug someone or burgle a house could you get away with it?

I have young children, and I beg to ask, where does the law stand when a parent needs to cycle alongside them, on the path? What fine will that be, please officer?' ADAM WINKLER, Burntwood Lane, Wandsworth
