I am delighted that someone thinks that an eight container recycling scheme in neighbouring Kingston is easy.

Just imagine how much easier it would be with one combined recycling sack?

A major problem with this Lib Dem trial is that it was attempted more than 10 years ago and was shown to cut recycling rates by nearly 60 per cent.

I support recycling but it must be as easy as possible, as it is in Lambeth and Wandsworth.

The Wandsworth one bag scheme recycled 21 per cent in 2005 compared to Kingston borough's pathetic six per cent.

The current trial is over engineered, not thought-through and not focused on making it as easy as possible for the council tax payer, who pays the bills.

Interestingly, and not coincidentally, their council tax is also 40 per cent lower than Kingston's.

It should also be noted that, unlike me, the architect of this trial (eight bins Shard) does not live in the trial area - funny that.

I have had at least one person suggest they would take their excess waste round to the autocratic councillors who imposed this on local residents, and they would then give the councillors the opportunity to store it for their residents at their homes.

I could not condone such action but I would sympathise and understand this reaction, especially as non-recyclables will now not be collected weekly.

We need a scheme which is easy, effective and cost-efficient, that scheme is available now, but none of the Lib Dems want to listen.
