Last Monday night saw the East Surrey planning sub-committee's overwhelming rejection of Cranstoun Drug Services' application to change the use of their premises at 5, Ember Lane, Weston Green from a centre for recovered drug addicts to a hostel for current homeless drug users.

On behalf of those co-ordinating opposition to the application I should like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the hundreds of residents in Weston Green and beyond who took the time to consider the issues, sign the petition against the application, write to the head of town planning to express their concerns and attend the planning committee meeting itself.

We are extremely grateful for all the support we received, without which we may have been facing a very different outcome.

I should also like to thank your newspaper for bringing this proposed change of use to the attention of your readership through your excellent and balanced coverage of the story.
