Prince Charles enjoyed a tour of Hampton Court Palace's first ever space solely dedicated to education.

The £2.4 million Clore Learning Centre at Hampton Court Palace was officially opened by HRH The Prince of Wales on Tuesday, March 6.

The Prince was taken on a tour of the new facilities, which include a gallery, a courtyard and five teaching spaces. While viewing the new building he met pupils from local schools taking part in workshops.

Among them were students from from New Malden's Holy Cross School who were in a workshop guessing the identity of various Tudor artefacts. "Don't tell them!" the workshop leader, who was dressed in Tudor gear, told the prince.

He also visited the art room, where pupils from Fern Hill Primary School in Kingston were busy printing brightly-coloured t-shirts.

They had picked their favourite design from the palace to print on to a t-shirt, which they proudly showed the prince.

"Watch out for the tests on the Tudors!" he warned them as he left the room.

Speaking in the gallery, under a fantastic dragon created by local schools, the prince talked about the palace being a great source of inspiration to artists, architects and other craftsmen.

He said: "Here people can learn about architecture and grand designs from Tudor through to the 20th Century."
