With reference to the ongoing debate about the site for Stanley Park School. The fact is that the current site is too small. The children have to walk alongside a busy main road to go to Stanley Park Recreation Ground for games lessons.
The Stanley Road allotment site is also too small, as evidenced by the admission by Nigel Simms at the meeting organised by the allotment committee that the school would still have to use the recreation ground for games lessons. So now the council seems content to have children cross the main road rather than walk along it.
The Orchard Hill Site is the only one of the three proposed which is big enough for all amenities to be provided on site. If traffic is really the only objection why not put a new road out from the back of the site onto Woodmansterne Road thereby relieving congestion.
I welcome the fact that Sutton have succeeded in winning a grant of £23million pounds to build a new school. However, I urge the council to consider the needs of the pupils and ensure the new site is big enough for the purpose.
