I feel strongly about the possible destruction of the lavender field and allotments that I felt I must write and voice my concerns.
I first stumbled across the lavender fields some five or so years ago as a visitor and was so enamoured of them that I decided to get involved in contributing to their continued success.
Although I live in Streatham I have regularly made the trip to Carshalton to attend meetings and to work in the fields, mowing, pruning, weeding as necessary and helping to organise and run the open weekend.
Through my horticultural and homoeopathic contacts, I have spread the word of what a gem the lavender field is, and as a result of my efforts alone, people have come from Devon, Hampshire, Sussex, the Lake District and north and south London to taste what is a bygone experience: an almost bucolic weekend of outdoor activity where adults and children can safely enjoy a simple, heavenly pleasure.
I wonder whether Sutton Council realises what a jewel this simple plot of land is, what a huge attraction it is, not only on a local but also on a national level, and what a magical sensory and educational experience it offers? It would indeed seem criminal to allow it to be wiped out.
