I do not by any means always agree with Jack Pinkerton.

However, in his last two letters to the Guardian, concerning the muddled state of the British constitution, he certainly has a point.

What we need to resolve is the establishment of a proper United States of Britain in place of the present rather chaotic hybrid.

Each of the four member nations (don't forget the Irish, Jack) would have its own Parliament, and there would be space for a federal assembly.

Our present medieval set up (with a kind of divine right monarchy) needs reforming.
