In reply to Mrs C Williams of Worcester Park (Letters, February 22).

I have two notices on the approach to my door and they are sized A4 and the one in English states that I do not want 2lbs of rubbish stuffed through my letterbox each week or any salesman etc, as this is MY HOME and NOT a market place.

The other notice is in picture form comprising of leaflets and menus together and overlaid with a red circle with a diagonal strip across its diameter in red.

I consider this to be an international language notice, as there are so many non-English speaking distributors operating and as many as three in an hour on some days, with 90 per cent of these distributors (English speaking as well) see fit to ignore my request.

Not all of the leaflets bear an address to reply in writing, and I have had an incident where I had locked my letterbox (damned inconvenient) and a distributor from a pizza business in Carshalton Beeches, forced the leaflet through and damaged the door.

Of course, when I rang the shop to complain, the manager wasn't available, so I reported the criminal damage to the police. They told me eventually to take out a civil prosecution. So, we really are at the mercy of these ignorant louts that fill our house with junk.

They are nothing short of a damned nuisance and they should go out and find a proper job. I did once see a vacancy for their job at £80 per week, surely this is below the minimum wage (or is there a fiddle?) B W CHAPMAN Waltham Road Carshalton
