Do we really need anything more than a sign saying welcome to Coulsdon' or welcome to London' (Welcome, Croydon Guardian, February 28)?

After all, drivers who use our road know where they are.

If the picture in the Croydon Guardian is representative of the site for a landmark then they will know it's the Coulsdon bypass.

Using the designer of, or anything to do with, the Millennium Dome can hardly be a recommendation to have more of our money (yes, it's our money) spent for us by politicians who crave recognition and glory, and have a need to leave the equivalent of a name carved on a tree.

If we have to erect some sort of object, perhaps we should ignore the expensive artists and architects and take a clipped word from the article that mentions the town's regeneration.

How about a wind-powered generator that could help power street lighting, festive lighting and even sell a little power to the National Grid?

If we must use artists they should be used to make the wind generator aesthetically pleasing.
