The recent byelection was not, as you reported, the third byelection in Bensham Manor ward (although it was the third one I have contested there), it was in fact the eleventh byelection in the same ward since 1924.
The fact that I only managed to get 15 votes, despite delivering an unprecedented 5,500 leaflets, was due to the difficulties I encountered in the form of several hundred enormous wheelie-bins which had been conveniently parked in the narrowest parts of people's pathways and gates, as well as a bite from a dog through a letter box.
Perhaps the wheelie bins were introduced by the previous Labour administration with this outcome in mind? When we have a Loony Government, we will regulate the design of letter boxes to ensure election candidates can deliver their leaflets unhindered.
