Your Local Guardian:

You should feel a little bit sorry for the owners of these lovely houses. Because if they were a few hundred meters further east they could instantly save about £1,000 off their household bills.

The homes are next to the A3 - a major route into Putney where Wandsworth residents living in an average band d property pay just £681 a year in council tax.

But by an act of financial bad luck these homes are in Kingston where they are told to pay £1,678 a year, hopefully getting better services from the council in the process.

Each council sets its bills based on its own budget. The Greater London Assembly, run by London Mayor Boris Johnson, also adds its own bill on top - currently £299 a year from London residents.

Below is our interactive table to show the variation in council tax bills borough by borough (based on the 2014/2015 financial year).
