Balaclava wearing thieves used a pick-up truck to ram through entrance of Mercedes-Benz World, leaving the glass doors "obliterated".

A cash machine was then ripped free before being loaded on to the vehicle and the burglars made their escape.

The raid happened at 11.30pm last night at the Weybridge showrooms.

Security guards were threatened by the intruders but were not injured.

The vehicle drove off and was chased by Surrey Police to the Manor Road area of Wokingham, Berkshire.

Five men were arrested at about 12.15am.

Police tape was up at the showroom in Brooklands today.

Your Local Guardian:

A witness said: "There is a 20m police perimeter around the main entrance, glass doors obliterated, few police".

Adding: "#mercedesworld - ram raided, hope this isn't another trophy raid."

Detective Chief Inspector Nancy Greenslade-Jones said: "I would appeal to anybody who saw anything suspicious in or around the locality of the offence in the days leading up to the incident, or at the time it happened to get in touch urgently.

"We believe another vehicle and a further group of people were involved in this burglary, which is why it is so important for anyone who has any information to get in touch and helped us with our investigation.

"We are award of several other incidences of a similar nature having taken place around the county in recent weeks and are not ruling out that they are linked."

A cash point in Claygate was blown from the wall of a newsagents in November, with a similar incident happening in Ewell in the same month.
