A woman in South Norwood escaped a gas leak that could have killed her thanks to a carbon monoxide alarm.
Fire crews were called to her house in Holmesdale Road after the alarm sounded yesterday morning.
The woman ventilated her kitchen, where her boiler was, and escaped unhurt.
The leak was fixed by gas engineers.
Danny Kelly, London Fire Brigade watch manager. said: “Carbon monoxide can be a silent killer so without her alarm sounding this could have been much more serious.
"Don’t take risks with your boilers, fires and cookers, get them checked and serviced regularly, and make sure you have a working carbon monoxide alarm.”
London Fire Brigade has been called to 268 incidents involving carbon monoxide this year.
