Croydon fell silent yesterday at Remembrance Day services held for those killed in a century of conflict.
Hundreds gathered at annual ceremonies, additionally poignant in the 100th year since the outbreak of the First World War, to honour fallen men and women.
War veterans, serving soldiers and politicians were among those who held two minutes of silence at 11am, after which wreaths were laid at the cenotaph outside Croydon town hall and the Kenley Aerodrome memorial.
Royal British Legion will hold a wreath-laying ceremony at the cenotaph in Katharine Street to mark Armistice Day tomorrow.
