Cheam's cycling superstar Joanna Rowsell has a four legged namesake after a charity decided to honour her Commonwealth Games success.

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home has named a stray tabby after Rowsell after she took gold in the 3,000m individual pursuit on Friday.

The charity hopes it will be able to help the moggy win gold by sniffing out her goal of a new home.

Carly Whyborn, head of operations at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, said: "We really hope domestic short-hair Joanna will find a loving home and can celebrate our cycling champion’s win with finding a new family.

"Joanna definitely lives up to her namesake - she’s agile, intelligent and clearly has her eyes on the prize of a happy future.

"Here at Battersea we hope by naming some of our animals after our champion gold medallists it will give cats like Joanna the second chance they’re looking for and so deserve."

If you can give Joanna a new home, you can call Battersea Dogs & Cats Home on 0843 509 4444 for more information.
