Police officers will swap their uniforms for football kits as they take to the pitch to coach young players.

More than 200 girls and boys aged six to 11 will receive coaching from PC Donna Williams and PCSOs Steve King, Rob Sidebottom and Steve Kennedy in an annual initiative being run at Cheam Recreation Ground starting from today.

The scheme runs until the end of the week and each day 40 young people will get a morning of coaching followed by a knock-out tournament and winners presentations.

Sutton United striker 'marvellous' Marvin Williams is also due to attend and show the young stars how he managed to score 14 goals last season.

The free event, sponsored by Smith & Byford, Hyundai, Sainsbury’s and Samsara Indian restaurant, has been organised by neighbourhood police officers for several years in an effort to give young people something to do during the summer holidays and cut anti-social behaviour.
