Firefighters freed a “brave little chap” trapped in a cot just in time for his family to watch the World Cup last night.
A two-year-old boy got his ankle caught in his cot in Court Farm Gardens, Manor Green Road, Epsom, and his parents called the fire brigade at 7.15pm.
Firefighters, from Epsom fire station, rushed to the scene and used a battery powered saw to cut through some of the slats on the side of the cot.
Firefighter Brennan McCallion said: “He was quite a brave little chap. He was in an awkward position but did not require an ambulance.
“He was up and walking about afterwards. It was a little red and grazed but there was nothing major.”
Firefighters managed to finish the job before England played Uruguay and lost 2-1 in the World Cup match. Kick-off was at 8pm.
Mr McCallion said: “If we can help in anyway, we are always happy to do so. We are more than happy to go out if children are in distress and need freeing.”
