This time-lapse video shows Sutton Council creating an 11-tonne litter mountain in the town centre.
The council dumped the huge pile of rubbish in the High Street to illustrate the amount of litter dropped in the borough every day.
The stunt marked the start of an anti-littering campaign during which people will be fined for dropping rubbish like cigarette butts and chewing gum in front of newly employed litter cops who will be patrolling hotspots.
Sutton Council hopes to use the threat of a fine to educate people not to drop rubbish. Collecting litter costs the council £4million every year and it is hoped this drive will cut that figure.
