Sandbags have been laid along the Kingston riverside in preparation for more rain and further flooding from the Thames.
A blue saloon car was pictured underwater in Lower Ham Road this afternoon next to floating boats, Canadian geese and a flood warning sign.
The sandbags were laid outside the Charter Quay apartment blocks to protect its 110-berth underground car park.
A worker from the apartments said this morning water was lapping just 42cm below the lip of a wall protecting the car park.
He added that he had seen swans' eggs washed away by the rising waters.
John Lewis has put up its flood barriers to protect its underground car park. Water has lapped over the side of the riverside near the department store.
A fire assembly point near the Boaters Inn was also below the waves.
