I was angered by the thoughtless comments made by Councillor Paddy Kane in the Sutton Guardian about Spencer Nursery School, referring to it as a “shack” and mentioning plans to replace this very popular nursery school.
This is a school that has an outstanding reputation and is valued highly by the many parents who choose this school for its excellent teaching and high standard care.
The school’s headteacher and staff team have made the best out of a 70-year-old building providing a safe, welcoming and stimulating environment for children – complete with a sensory garden.
A shiny new building does not guarantee good education. I should know, I went to see 10 nursery schools in the borough and chose the nursery school that Coun Kane describes as a “shack” for the quality care that is provides, and I did not regret it.
His comments show how out of touch Mr. Kane is with the local community he represents.
Why does the council not invest money to refurbish this school? Or does the council already have other plans for this site?
