Princess Alice Hospice received full marks in its latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection.

The unannounced inspection took place on December 9 and the Esher hospice met the standards in the five inspected areas.

Organisations inspected by the CQC either meet standards, need action or enforcement action is taken.

Inspectors from the CQC looked at consent to care and treatment, meeting nutritional needs, cleanliness and infection control, requirements relating to workers and complaints during their visit.

Patients at the hospice, along with carers, family members and hospice staff were also spoken to.

In the report, which was released on January 7, inspectors said: “All the people we spoke with were very happy with the service. One person told us ‘The staff are marvellous, nothing is too much trouble for them’. Another person said ‘The staff listen to me and what I need, and that’s important to me’.”

The report also said infection control procedures were followed, all staff had a good knowledge of their roles and responsibilities and patients were protected from the risks of inadequate nutrition and dehydration.
