A cinema group has launched its January season of films, writes Andy Bloss.
Save the David Lean Cinema Campaign has four screenings during January with the first being held earlier this week.
The programme includes the documentary Winter Nomads, about shepherds and their flock on a four-month journey through the Swiss winter.
All the films are being shown at two screenings at the Spread Eagle pub in Katharine Street at 2.30pm and 8pm.
Other films include Museum Hours and The East.
The campaign had been showing films at the Fairfield Halls but there are no films scheduled beyond January.
Campaign programmer Philip Howard says: "We've been working hard for some time to get permission to screen these exceptional films, and we're delighted that Croydon audiences will now be able to see them for the first time."
Adrian Winchester, the campaign chairman, adds the group see it as their responsibility to keep the David Lean brand alive in Croydon.
