A flat was gutted by fire in Chessington yesterday evening.
Firefighters rushed to Cecilia House in Chessington Hall Gardens at about 6.40pm, and were confronted by an “intense” kitchen fire, New Malden watch manager Ray Foster said.
Mr Foster added: “When we turned up flames were punching out of two windows on the third floor.
“It was really going. We managed to evacuate all the flats. The flat was destroyed.”
The fire was extinguished after about 20 minutes.
Residents only returned to neighbouring flats after a window left hanging after its frame melted was taken down by firefighters.
