A food store due to celebrate its official opening tomorrow was raided for alcohol yesterday.

The newly-opened Budgens store, on Walton Street, in Walton-on-the-Hill, Tadworth, was targeted between 11pm and 11.30pm and an amount of alcohol was stolen.

Banstead MP Crispin Blunt is due to cut a ribbon marking the formal opening of the shop tomorrow at 10am.

PC Helen Simon said: "I would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area to contact officers with information, no matter how small or irrelevant you may feel this is.  It could prove vital to our investigation.

"I understand some people may wish to provide information anonymously and they can do this by calling the independent charity."

Anyone with information should call the police on 101, quoting reference 45130002532, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
