Croydon Council has appointed a new executive director to lead the borough through its £3bn regeneration.

Jo Negrini has previously worked at Lambeth Council and will take up her new position as executive director of development and environment in the New Year.

She said: "I’m really excited to be taking on this role at such a pivotal time for Croydon.!

Ms Negrini succeeds Paul Spooner, who has worked at the council on an interim basis since March.

She currently works as Newham Council’s director of strategic regeneration, planning and Olympic legacy.

Council chief executive Nathan Elver said: "I am delighted to be welcoming Jo to Croydon.

"Jo is an outstanding candidate and her proven track record will bring a wealth of experience to the borough as we embark on the most important journey in Croydon’s history."

Councillor Jason Perry, cabinet member for planning regeneration and transport, said: "We are delighted to welcome Jo to Croydon.

!This is a hugely exciting time to be working here and we want someone who will be as ambitious for our borough and our residents as we are.

"Jo’s background and past experience make her the ideal person to be holding the reins as Croydon embarks on its journey of regeneration."
