A care home manager has scooped a national award for her commitment to residents.

Garmit Wright has been manager of Heavers Court, Selhurst, for five years and was nominated by the award by a resident's daughter.

Jennifer Jones, whose mother has lived at the Care UK run home for eight years said: "Garmit is extremely caring and treats all the residents like family.

"She is always approachable, understanding and she has a no-nonsense approach known by all at Heavers Court.

"Although Garmit has very high standards she also has a great deal of empathy for those with problems and she will always try her best to help solve them."

Ms Wright who was also nominated by other relatives and members of her own team, was presented with her award by Care UK's chief executive Mike Parish at a ceremony in Oxford last week.

She said: "I was very touched to be nominated by so many people. As a manager, the most rewarding thing is to hear from residents, relatives and your team that you, and your efforts, are valued and appreciated."
