The people of Merton certainly did not forget our fallen war heroes in Remembrance Day services yesterday.
War memorials at St Mary’s Merton Park, Mitcham and Wimbledon were surrounded by respectful wells wishers, veterans as well as serving members of the armed forces.
A further ceremony was held today outside Merton Civic Offices in Morden to mark the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month when the First World War officially ended.
At Wimbledon War Memorial, Wimbledon Village, the mayor of Merton Councillor Krystal Miller, The Rt Hon Sir John Wheeler JP DL, and the Wimbledon branch of The Royal Legion paid their respects, whilst the Mitcham branch of the Royal British Legion were at Lower Green Mitcham, along with the deputy mayor John Sargeant.
Coun Miller said: "Armistice Day is a time to reflect and remember those who have lost their lives fighting for the peace and freedom we enjoy today.
"We also remember the dedication and bravery of those who are currently serving in our Armed Forces."
