A Carshalton café are very happy and proud to be crowned Best Independent Business for 2013.

The Roast & Ground café in the High Street fought off tough competition from rivals to win the award for businesses across Carshalton and Wallington.

Rhubarb and Bramley, also in Carshalton High Street, won the Best Shop Front award and Maxime Wools in Carshalton Beeches won the Best Customer Service award.

Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake, who dreamed up the awards, announced the winners.

The winning café, founded in 2010, is family-run and the team say they are already looking forward to competing in next year’s competition.

Owner Mr Yusuf Akkoc said: “We would like to thank everyone for their support and all of our customers for voting for us.”

He added: “We always strive to treat our customers in a personal and friendly manner. At the end of the day, we want every visitor to feel welcome and to enjoy themselves.”

Over 600 residents voted in the competition.

Mr Brake said: “We are really lucky in our area to have so many brilliant and unique independent retailers.

“This competition was a way of letting them know how much we appreciate and support them.”

He added: “Roast & Ground has clearly left a lasting and tasty impression on local residents.”
