Peter Pan at Wimbledon Theatre is proving a smash hit adrenaline rush with youngsters and adults alike.

It's packed with stunning special effects, comedy, colourful all-new sets - and The Fonz Henry Winkler.

They dressed him up as a pirate and gave him a hook, but his fans weren't fooled. "We love you, Fonz" they shouted and when the orchestra played Happy Days the audience raised the roof.

A tongue-in-cheek Winkler made his UK stage debut as an American version of Captain Hook alongside British comedy legend Bobby Davro. They dovetailed superbly.

The laughs were non-stop and Davro had the children bobbing up and down in the aisles while dressed as a eight-foot kangaroo.

My 12-year-old nephew George Curtis was spellbound - he loved it all and now wants one day to become an actor.

He enthused: "It was all brilliant. And one of my favourite moments was when Smee (alias Davro) sang The Twelve Days of Christmas. And played a trick on us."

Certainly there was plenty of audience participation and, like George, the other kids lapped it up.

Children's favourite Sarah-Jane Honeywell, the star of Cbeebies, is an impish Peter Pan. No wonder she was so at home as the boy who has never grown up - she has played the part five times!

Sarah-Jane put her talents as an agile acrobat, aerialist, singer and dance to good use.

The hard-working cast, dazzling sets designed by Terry Parsons and glittering spectacle made this Roger Redfarn-directed show one of the most polished pantomimes I have seen.

Youngsters from the Doris Holford Stage School and fine support from Vanessa Clarke as Mrs Darling and Susie Anton as Wendy added to the enjoyment and I defy you not to have a swashbuckling good time.

But if you sit too near the front you may be in for a shock!
