Carshalton Athletic manager Dave Garland has revealed he will be forced to axe another two players as part of the club's financial cutbacks.

The Robins suffered a humiliating 3-1 defeat at home to second-bottom club Hendon in the Ryman Premier League on Saturday.

Then goals from Manny Williams, Leli Bajada and Dean Palmer condemned Carshalton to another demoralising 3-0 loss away to Leyton on Tuesday night.

And morale at the club will not have been boosted by news of the continued cull.

Garland has already been forced to part with a string of first team players, including the influential Gary Drewett and former Crystal Palace defender Danny Boxall, as part of the club's financial restructuring programme.

Garland said: "I am going to have to let another two players go which, of course, is difficult.

"You try to build a squad together, but then you are just cut to pieces and back to square one.

"I can appreciate what needs to be done if we have not got the finances, though that doesn't make it any easier.

"The situation kills me, but I just have to get on with it."

The Robins chief says the uncertainty over the club's finances has left his players in limbo, but insisted that is not a reason for his squad to let their performances slip.

"They want to play for the club and for their shirt but I think maybe some of them have become disillusioned," said Garland.

"Even if they have become disillusioned, they should still want to play for their own personal pride.

"Saturday was abysmal - we just had a lack of everything," he said. "I know I was embarrassed and the players should be embarrassed."

Athletic's fight for survival has been dealt a further blow after Garland confirmed that 25-year-old striker Craig Dundas is set for a five-week lay-off for exploratory knee surgery.

Garland will be looking for a marked improvement in Saturday's trip to Folkestone Invicta - and points to the return after injury of striker Luke Fontana as the one bright spot on the horizon.

Fontana scored Carshalton's goal against Hendon from the penalty spot and Garland said: "Luke is a proven goalscorer at this level.

"He is not 100 per cent fit, but we will stick with him and he will be a major plus for us."
