Staines Town's chances of a play-off spot in the Ryman Premier Division are fast diminishing after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Leyton on Saturday.

This Saturday's home game against Heybridge has been postponed due to the FA Trophy and, unless Town, currently 13th, can return to winning form quickly they could be looking forward to a season of mid-table mediocrity.

Swans manager Steve Cordery was forced to make several changes to the side which beat Sudbury in midweek, with keeper James Courtnage, Kevin Warner and Peter Smith coming in.

A crowd of only 171 saw Ali Chaaban fire Staines ahead in the 27th minute when he latched on to Dave Sargent's pass and turned the last defender before supplying a super finish.

Another goalbound shot was accidently blocked by Gareth Risbridger and then a defender was forced to head against his own crossbar.

But Leyton equalised two minutes after the break with a shot from Leli Bajada.

Jordan Kiffin came off the bench for his home debut, but Leyton looked the more dangerous, with Williams only denied by a superb tackle from Danny Gordon.

Adam Thompson had a fine game at the back for Staines.

Substitute Neil Lampton and Kiffin both come close to snatching all three points.

Despite having Laura Spooner harshly sent off, strikes from Sharon Heaven, Lucy McNeil (penalty) and Eddy Koff gave them victory.
