Cilla Black tried to leave a Tadworth shop without paying for a loaf and a bottle of champagne on Wednesday.

Police weren’t called because it was all part of the filming of a new BBC sitcom on Wednesday.

The singer, famous for hosting TV show Blind Date, surprised residents by appearing on set at a family run bakery in the high street.

Your Local Guardian:

A film crew went to the Chalet Bakery, in Tadworth High Street, to film a pilot episode for a comedy series Led Astray starring Black and comedian Paul O'Grady.

The bakery had a makeover to become the Village Deli for the day.

Joe Gambin, 25, whose family owns the bakery, said that Black was filmed juddering up to the shop in a Range Rover and trying to leave the deli without paying for a loaf of bread and bottle of champagne.

Mr Gambin said: "They were here the whole day for only four minutes of footage. It was pretty cool and surreal.

"She seemed at ease and friendly. She was not massively bright and bubbly like on TV but I suppose you can’t be like that all the time."

Your Local Guardian:

In Led Astray, Black's character, caller Tanya, finds out that her long lost half-brother Arthur, played by O'Grady, is in prison. With some skilful forgery, Arthur manages to fix his release on the condition that he stays with Tanya.

If the comedy series gets commissioned, the bakery looks forward to seeing more of Black and hopefully her co-star O’Grady, famous for his drag queen alter ego Lily Savage.

Mr Gambin said: "I think everyone would have liked to have seen him."
