Croydon Schools' Football Association's U14 borough side grounded out a hard-fought victory Surrey Schools' league win over visitors Aldershot & Farnborough Schools at Croydon Arena last Wednesday.
The hosts' gritty performance was built on sound defensive work by the back four players, Arron Toovey (Riddlesdown), George Robe (Whitgift), Dean McQueen (Coulsdon) and Eamon Gaughan (St Joseph's).
The first half was goalless although the visitors created more chances than Croydon.
Substitute Piers Hanifan (Royal Russell) shot Croydon into the lead with his first touch of the ball, neatly slotting the ball home from just inside the penalty area 12 minutes after half-time.
Croydon battled hard and victory was ensured when Sekajja made it 2-0, darting on to a through pass from Gary Andrew (Lanfranc) in the last minute.
