Stuart O’Keefe has rejected suggestions Crystal Palace should sack manager Ian Holloway and insisted there is no need to panic at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles are second bottom in the Premier League with six defeats from seven matches, with bookmakers putting Holloway among the favourites to be the next top-flight manager shown the door.

But O’Keefe is adamant Holloway is the right man at the helm and that Palace will come good.

“Changing manager would be stupid and not the right thing to do,” said the 22-year-old.

“He has been at this level before and if anyone is going to get us out of this situation and get everyone together, he is the man

“The players are behind him and I am sure the staff are too.

“There is no panic among the players – September wasn’t the best month as we didn’t get a point but it is still early and we have had a run of difficult fixtures.

“But next we have Fulham at home and that is a big game and then Arsenal at home and you never know what could happen in that.

“After that we have a good run of games and closer to Christmas is where you should start to look at it.

“Look at Manchester United, you know they will be there or thereabouts come the end of the season and not where they are at the moment.

“It’s about us gelling together and working together.

“The more we get to know each other and get used to playing at this level, and believe we can play at this level, the better we will become.”

With Kagisho Dikgacoi injured, O’Keefe was handed his first Premier League start in the 3-1 loss at Liverpool, where a first-half blitz from the Red saw them 3-0 up at half-time before Palace scored a consolation through Dwight Gayle.

It was the first time O’Keefe has started for Palace in the league since February 2, and he hopes he did enough to warrant a run in the team.

“To play in the Premier League is what I have always wanted to do,” he said.

“It was great to get my first start and to do that at a ground like Anfield was extra special. It is a historical ground where the fans are so close to the pitch and it was great.

“It was a big day for me and I’m going to work hard to keep my place.

“I will take my opportunities when they come and if I can get a run of games then, hopefully, I can push on.”
