The first UK tour of William Finn’s Tony Award-winning musical comedy kicks off this autumn writes Andy Bloss.
Darren Day and Niki Evans star in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, a musical comedy that centres on the lives of six quirky teenagers who have entered into the Bee, a competition that asks contestants to spell a variety of words.
The competition is also run by three equally as quirky grown-ups.
Day, who has starred in leading roles in shows such as Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, plays Vice Principal Panch, a senior member of the judging panel who has recently returned to the competition after five years finding a fresh outlook on life.
Niki Evans, who has starred in touring productions of Blood Brothers, also plays a leading role in the comedy which includes Rhys Owen, Ellie Mason and Thomas Mackley.
