Hampton & Richmond Borough may have secured their first home league win in two months on Saturday but boss Alan Devonshire is not getting carried away.

Beavers skipper Matt Elverson last week decalred he would settle for an ugly 1-0 triumph to break their Beveree Stadium hoodoo, and a Rob Paris strike 12 minutes from time duly delivered against Folkstone Invicta at the weekend.

It means Hampton have enjoyed a trio of consecutive victories for the first time this season, putting the club within striking distance of the Ryman League Premier Division play-offs.

The festive period brings five matches against teams struggling at the wrong end of the table, but Devonshire is refusing to look beyond Saturday's opponents Harrow Borough.

"We don't want to get ahead of ourselves because all the games coming up will be tough. You only have to look at Walton & Hersham beating Chelmsford last week to see that," he said.

"Because of the way this league is, I am just taking each game as it comes at the moment.

"We didn't play well against Folkstone but got the three points.

"I was delighted because we played well and got beaten 4-1 against Ramsgate, so we can't afford to look too far ahead."

Prior to Saturday, the last home win Beavers fans had to celebrate in the Premier Division was a 3-2 thriller against Staines Town on September 2 - and they were finally given something to cheer as the party season kicked off.

The contrast couldn't have been greater between then and now, as a scrappy affair ensued on a sodden pitch after almost 24 hours of constant rain.

Both teams improved in the second half, and the Beavers were good value for Paris's winner from Elliot Godrey's free-kick that lifts them to eighth in the table.

Devonshire jokingly dubbed centre-back Elverson a psychic after the result mirrored his pre-match prediction, before adding the triumph had been coming.

"We went into it on the back of two good away wins, which had given the boys a huge boost in confidence," he added.

"I was never worried about not winning at home. We haven't done anything different and I was confident it would come good sooner rather than later."

Hampton: Matt Lovett; Graham Harper (Lawrence Yaku, 55), Obinna Ulasi, Matt Elverson, Rob Paris, Dean Wells (Barrie Matthews, 46), Alan Inns, Elliott Godfrey (Dudley Gardner, 77), Ian Hodges, Marcello Fernandes, Marvin Bartley. Subs not used: Glen Harris & Jon Henry-Hayden.

Defender Ryan Lake is expected to be missing for at least a month after being injured in last week's 2-0 Middlesex Charity Cup second round win over Enfield Town.

Meanwhile, midfielder Kelvin McIntosh faces a similar stretch on the sidelines with knee ligament trouble after limping off in the win at Horsham two weeks ago.
